When it comes to taxing the car many of us leave it to the last minute and have to endure a mad scramble to find the right documents before the post office closes. Well if you’re one of those last minute scramblers, you’ve got no more excuses, as the DVLA has announced that from the 10th January 2006, a revolutionary online and telephone car tax service will take the hassle out of taxing your vehicle.

A new survey for the DVLA revealed that more than half of us are paying bills online and in fact two thirds say they wished they could complete all household transactions and pay all their bills using the internet. In response to this growing trend, the DVLA’s new service will allow motorists to tax their vehicles in a matter of minutes, online or by telephone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Electronic Vehicle Licensing (EVL) means that for the first time ever Britain’s drivers can renew their car tax wherever and whenever they want, no need for paper copies of supporting documentation such as insurance and MOT certificates. With the survey also revealing that 41% of drivers have delayed paying a bill or retaxing their car because they couldn’t find the right paperwork the new service seems a timely change, especially as half have admitted they have no idea where they have put their important documents!

We are joined by Sue White from DVLA on Thursday 26th at 1500 to explain how the changes affect the way motorists retax their vehicles and to guide us through using the new system.
